Tasting notes:
Nudant Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir expresses itself beautifully with an intense colour and a nose made up of dark berries such as blackberries and blueberries. You will also get a touch of spices to finish it all. This wine is vigorous, intense and bold.
Food match: Nudant Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir
This wine pairs with good quality poultry, lamb (patiently oven-roasted) and roast feathered game are easy first choices. A thick cut of lean, firm-textured beef will match the wine’s fullness while spicy couscous with poultry will be equally delighted with such a wine for company.
A less obvious pairing is foie gras which has its advocates amongst serious foodies. This wine has a sufficient force of personality to accompany intensely flavoured cheeses such as Époisses,
Producer/Region:
Domaine Nudant, many centuries of history. Guillaume Nudant was making wines in 1453. Today the domaine spreads over 15 nectares in the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits and covers 20 appellations, village, 1er cru and Grand Cru. Today Jean-Rene, and his son Guillaume Nudant head the business.
Vineyard:
Different types of ploughing follow one another in order to aerate the soil and to remove unwanted weeds.
“L’épamprage” or “l’évasivage” is a method of canopy management that is done manually during which we select the new shoots that will bear the grapes by removing the unwanted ones. This method takes very long and is hard work but it allows us to regulate the amount of bunches per vine in order to assure the quality of our crop. This work also consists in removing all unwanted buds (disbudding) in order to prevent the vines from wearing out unnecessarily.
The “relevage” and “l’accolage” consists in raising the wires and straighten up the shoots to keep them straight and well aerated.
Approximately 100 days after bloom, the grapes reach maturity. 15 days to 3 weeks before harvest, samples are taken to follow the grapes’ evolution and to fully optimise the starting date of harvest. This decision and date will be different for every vineyard and for ever year.
