Product Description

Tasting notes:

Kleine Oranjerie ‘Flora and Fauna’ Merlot. Deeply varietal nose of dark cherry-chocolate over crushed minerals with a leafy note. The palate is generously laden with dark plum and chocolate notes on a long, velveteen finish.

Food match:

Try with Beef, Lamb or Veal. Earthy vegetables like mushrooms.

Producer/Region:

Working with vines old and new across the Cape, Kleine Oranjerie captures the Cape’s marvellous menagerie of vines in a glass. They are fortunate to source fruit from exceptional sites, from their farm in Franschhoek to the farthest-flung blocks of the Western Cape. All their wines are gently pressed and naturally-fermented the better to express the unique personality and provenance of their wines. They champion old vineyards over 35 years old, some indeed planted in the 1900s. Beneath the mighty dome of the Cape’s wild weather they finesse their wild ferments. Welcome to the small world of Kleine Oranjerie.

The Western Cape is a South African province with coasts bordering the Indian and Atlantic oceans. It’s known for the port city of Cape Town, set beneath Table Mountain, part of a national park of the same name. In Table Bay, Robben Island is the notorious prison that once held Nelson Mandela, and is now a living museum. Farther afield, winelands surround historical towns like Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl.
