Product Description

Tasting notes:

Gardet Prestige Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru.  Very pleasant, with hints of toast and almond opening up to fruitier aromas. Such as yellow stone fruit (peach, apricot, nectarine), citrus fruit (squeezed orange, zest) and a floral touch (elderberry, lime blossom). On the palate, very smooth, fresh and mineral. Fruit aromas (yellow peach, orange, lemon) and notes of vanilla, hazelnut and toast coat your palate. The finish is very floral.

Food Match:

Perfect as a simple aperitif, or with classy canapes that have depth of flavour and spice. Perhaps even Asian cuisine – not too spicy, mind!

Region/Producer:

Gardet was established in 1895 by Charles Gardet in Epernay. In the 1930s, his son, Georges Gardet, continued the family tradition by moving to Chigny-les-Roses to develop the Champagne Gardet brand. It was sold to the Prieux family in 2007.

The Prieuxs have invested in the business, but wisely retained the features of the style of wine made over the years. Only slightly refining it to be a little more forward-drinking with more fruit freshness and balance. The house owns around 7 ha of premier cru vineyards around their home villages of Chigny-Les-Roses, Ludes and Rilly la Montage. The long tirage time and the use of a high proportion of reserve wine has marked the house style. And in fact is a distinguishing feature of Champagne Gardet.

Made from 100% Premier & Grand Cru Chardonnay grapes grown in Montagne de Reims (Vaudemange, Avenay-Val-d’Or) Côte des Blancs (Cuis, Grauves) and Vallée de la Marne (Bisseuil, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.) The best Chardonnays are selected to constitute a perpetual reserve which Gardet use each year to bottle this prestigious wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness, they avoid malolactic fermentation in order to honour their intention of producing a tensed and vibrant champagne. 25% is ageing of the main harvest from the year for around eight months, with 75% reserve wines –Solera. Prestige Charles Gardet Blanc de Blancs is bottle-aged on lees for three to four years with a minimum three months after disgorgement before shipping. A Dosage of 6 g/L is added which includes beet sugar.
