Producer/Region:

4,000 barrels arranged in various rooms or 2,000 meters of caves carved into the rock. A winery buried in the earth and promoted by Vitorino, the fifth generation of the Eguren Family. In 1989 he decided to build this winery on the largest estate the family had, Sotovin, in Páganos. A house always open to visitors where they will be welcomed as at home. Six generations of wine farmers. This family tradition is what drives the Eguren Ugarte Winery in Laguardia, the heart of Rioja Alavesa.
At the foot of Sierra Cantabria and surrounded by 130 hectares of vineyards, the winery responds to a philosophy that its founder, Vitorino Eguren, always had very clear. It is a spirit of welcome and attention to the visitor that sums up centuries of the Rioja Alavesa farmer’s way of being. A place to know and enjoy the experience of wine, remembering stories through its 2,000 meters of caves.
Centennial vineyards
The grapes for the elaboration of our wines with years come from vineyards of more than 50 years located in Labastida and Páganos, privileged situations due to their altitude around 600-700 meters and their particular microclimate, favorable for the production of quality grapes. The grapes for the production of our aging wines come from vineyards in the clay-calcareous soils of Labastida, Páganos and Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. A north-south orientation is sought and they are driven on high trellises, thus ensuring greater exposure to the sun. In recent years, the winery has opted for new grape varieties for the production of monovarietal whites and reds, and for this it has bought farms in the most optimal areas of soil and climate in order to obtain the best grapes of the varieties planted.
The vineyards
They have 130 hectares of our own vineyard where we cultivate and control the production of our grapes in a traditional way in harmony with the most recent viticultural techniques. The grapes used to make our wines come from vineyards in the clay-calcareous soils of Labastida, Páganos, Leza and Elciego, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. A north-south orientation is sought and they are driven on high trellises, thus ensuring greater exposure to the sun. By not watering the vineyards, they are completely dependent on the weather conditions. They harvest manually and mechanically, so that the grapes arrive at the winery at their optimum moment.
