Product Description

Tasting notes: Ca’di Ponti Nero d’Avola

Ca’di Ponti Nero d’Avola is a deeply coloured, full-flavoured, spicy red with perfumed aromas of wild strawberry and black cherry. The palate combines abundant brambly fruit flavours with lightly smoky and savoury notes. With a hint of bitter chocolate and structured tannins.

Food match:

Drink with juicy home-made burgers with a slab of mozzarella, or charred lamb steaks.

Producer/Region:

This delicious red has been recently upgraded to DOC status, meaning lower yields and greater concentration. Therefore this is a ripe robust style that pairs well with food and offers notable value for money.

Grapes are sourced from southern Sicily, around Riesi – Nero d’Avola’s traditional heartland. Traditional fermentation at 26 to 30C, between 5 and 10 days maceration, bottled young with no oak ageing.

Established in 2003, Adria Vini is a winemaking venture jointly owned by Boutinot and Araldica Castelvero. This is the leading co-operative in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte. So their aim is to produce authentic, well-priced still and sparkling wines from local grape varieties.

Firstly, all aspects of production, from grape selection through to vinification. Maturation, blending and bottling are meticulously overseen by Araldica’s winemaking team of Claudio Manera and Lella Burdese. Assisted by Boutinot’s Tony Brown MW. Secondly, they source from a range of private growers and cooperatives, with whom we have long term relationships. Principally in Veneto, Friuli, Lombardy, Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo and Sardinia.

Nero d’Avola is “the most important red wine grape in Sicily” and is one of Italy’s most important indigenous varieties. It is named after Avola in the far south of Sicily, and its wines are compared to New World Shirazes, with sweet tannins and plum or peppery flavours. It also contributes to Marsala Rubino blends.
