Producer/Region:
The south-east facing vineyards are located in the hills of the Valpolicella region. At 180-280 metres above the sea level. The soil there is very varied but mostly chalky, of volcanic origin. The older vineyards ate treat using the pergola Trentina system. They plant about 3,000 vines per hectare. And the newer ones use the single Guyot system with 5,000 plants per hectare. The vines are 32 years old on average.
The Allegrini family estate covers 120 hectares of vineyard in the heart of the Valpolicella area. The family make wine here for six generations. But was Giovanni Allegrini who founded the vineyard as we know now. When he passed away in 1983, his three children take the control of the Vineyard. And they ran it together until Walter’s death in July 2003. Franco ( the youngest son) is now who looks after the vineyards and the winemaker. Marilisa (his daughter) is the director of marketing.
Thanks to its status as a DOC wine under the Italian appellation system, Valpolicella wine has many stipulations that are required by law. Each wine must have from 45 to 95% Corvina. Which is the standard grape of the region, but up to 50% of this quota can be substituted with Corvinone. This is the source of the wine’s prominent cherry flavours. Additionally, Rondinella grapes must make up 5 to 30% of the blend, they gave the wine this bright floral notes. Molinara is another grape that they can use sparingly. The resulting wine is bright, lively, good balanced and with accessible fruity flavours.
